چکیده

= jlhe influence of the atmospheric-state on the extinction of direct solar radiation has been studied by using a four layer atmospheric model. Simple analytical formulae are established for the spectral optical depths of permanent gases and water vapour. These formulae use the ground level valuer of air pressure, temperature and relative humidity. An additional parameter, related to thi vertical distribution of the humidity content, is used for a better estimation if

Technical Note: Improved total atmospheric water vapour amount determination from near-infrared filter measurements with sun photometers

In this work we explore the effect of the contribution of the solar spectrum to the recorded signal in wavelengths outside the typical 940-nm filter’s bandwidth. We employ gaussian-shaped filters as well as actual filter transmission curves, mainly AERONET data, to study the implications imposed by the non-zero out-of-band contribution to the coefficients used to derive precipitable water from ...

Σ-iasi-β: a Hyperfast Radiative Transfer Code to Retrieve Surface and Atmospheric Geophysical Parameters

This paper describes an improved, faster, implementation of the σ-IASI model, with a new parameterization of radiative transfer in cloudy atmosphere. The model can compute up and/or downwelling spectral radiances, emitted from the Earth’s system and their analytical Jacobians with respect to a set of geophysical parameters and the water vapour and carbon dioxide continua absorbing coefficients....

Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Optical Depth Using a Smartphone Sun Photometer

In recent years, smart phones have been explored for making a variety of mobile measurements. Smart phones feature many advanced sensors such as cameras, GPS capability, and accelerometers within a handheld device that is portable, inexpensive, and consistently located with an end user. In this work, a smartphone was used as a sun photometer for the remote sensing of atmospheric optical depth. ...

RTIASI-4: a new version of the ECMWF fast radiative transfer model for the infrared atmospheric sounding interferometer

An improved version of RTIASI, the ECMWF fast radiative transfer model for the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer, has been developed. In the new version of RTIASI (RTIASI-4) the accuracy of the fast transmittance model has been improved by including 4 more molecules (HNO3, CCl4, CF4 and OCS) in the line-by-line computations and by using the year 2000 release of the HITRAN molecular d...

Microwave remote sensing of stratospheric trace gases using digital Fast Fourier Transform spectrometers

The Institute of Applied Physics observes middle atmospheric trace gases, such as ozone and water vapour, by microwave radiometry. We report on the comparison of measurements using a novel digital Fast Fourier Transform and accousto optical spectrometers. First tests made on ground are presented as well as first experience about the use of such spectrometers under aircraft conditions.
